Eye examination for distance and near vision
You want to see perfectly with your new glasses. That’s why a precise eye exam is essential!
High-tech equipment is used to measure your eye length, eye shape, and eye pressure. The goal is to find the optimal correction for your eyes, so you can enjoy a clear, sharp image.
It is best to make an appointment so that one of the optometrists at New Optics has time to carefully perform your eye examination. A professional eye examination is always charged for.

Binocular measurement
The goal of a pair of glasses is, of course, ‘comfortable vision without strain’. Sometimes, a standard eye exam is not sufficient for this.
A binocular measurement using the MKH method can determine whether your symptoms—such as headaches, neck pain, or irritated eyes—might be due to heterophoria, a condition in which your eyes do not work together correctly.
Other symptoms of heterophoria include difficulty concentrating during reading, computer work, or fine manual tasks; reading difficulties (words appearing alternately sharp and blurred); trouble focusing when switching between distant and near objects; difficulty maintaining a fixed gaze without quickly becoming fatigued; reduced depth perception and orientation issues (especially in the dark); and increased light sensitivity.
If heterophoria is present, your eyes may not be working together correctly. A binocular eye examination specifically addresses this issue. Custom lenses with ground-in prisms are ordered. In most cases, this allows symptoms to be fully or partially resolved.
If there is a possibility that you have heterophoria, make an appointment with an ophthalmologist and request a prescription for a binocular assessment and any necessary prisms. Afterward, you can schedule an appointment with New Optics for a detailed binocular assessment! A fee is always charged for a professional eye examination.
In your interest, New Optics strives for good interdisciplinary collaboration between doctors and optometrists. To rule out other (medical) causes than heterophoria, a doctor should always be consulted for physical complaints such as head, neck and shoulder pain.
Perfect digital centering
High-tech precision equipment from Seiko is used to measure your individual parameters, such as the distance between your eyes, the height of your eyes, and the distance from your eyes to the lenses. Only in this way can perfect lens centering be guaranteed.
“Seiko” is the Japanese word for “precision.” It is no coincidence that all times at the Olympic Games are recorded using Seiko equipment and chronometers. It was precisely because of this precision that New Optics chose to invest in a digital centering device from Seiko.

Low Vision
You can also turn to New Optics for low-vision solutions. Are you looking for handheld magnifiers or magnifying glasses? Or perhaps spectacle magnifiers, magnifying mirrors, electronic magnifiers, or other assistive devices? If so, please make an appointment. This allows the New Optics team to work with you to find the most suitable device or aid. It is always advisable to consult a doctor if you are experiencing headaches or neck and shoulder pain.
Eye care
Do you suffer from dry or watery eyes? Sometimes this is caused by poor coordination between the two eyes, as mentioned above. At other times, a little extra eye hygiene, an eye mask, or artificial tears can make a difference and provide some relief. High-tech equipment and imaging allow for an objective ‘before and after’ comparison, enabling you to see your progress for yourself. In any case, you are welcome at New Optics for tips and tricks!
Do you need to see an ophthalmologist?
Since February 2023, a new Royal Decree has been in place regulating the profession of optometrist. Although this decree is being challenged, it is currently in effect. New Optics must therefore comply with it.
It is best to make an appointment with an ophthalmologist as soon as possible, as waiting times are increasing. You should also schedule a follow-up appointment within the timeframes listed below. Otherwise, if you lose your glasses or your prescription changes, you risk having to wait a long time before getting sorted out.
The following age limits and timeframes must be observed:
- Under 16 years of age: Only the ophthalmologist may measure your eyes.
- Aged 16 to 45: New Optics may measure your eyes, provided you were seen by an ophthalmologist no more than 10 years ago.
- Aged 45 to 65: New Optics may measure your eyes, provided you were seen by an ophthalmologist no more than three years ago.
- For those over 65: New Optics may measure your eyes, provided you were seen by an ophthalmologist no more than two years ago.
The timeframe may be adjusted by the ophthalmologist, depending on the pathology.
Do you have lenses with a ground-in prism? Then you must always have a prescription from an ophthalmologist confirming this.
An optometrist can measure your eyes after you have been seen by an ophthalmologist. This allows the prescription of your spectacle lenses to be optimized.
